To preserve and present Plantation and south Florida's ongoing historical, educational and cultural resources, focusing on the youth of our community as well as its multi-cultural residents with a museum and diversified outreach programs.
The Board and Committees members meet every 3rd Thursday
January through December (except July) at the Museum or via Zoom.
All members are welcome to attend.
A historical lecture or musical entertainment events are held at the Plantation Historical Museum. Contact the Museum for more info.
All members and the general public are welcomed to attend.
Schedule to be announced.
To raise funds for programs, exhibits and general upkeep of the museum, the Society organizes a couple of fundraisers throughout the year:
THE BROWARD COUNTY PLANT AFFAIR
THE ANNUAL FLEA MARKET
Another way the Society raises funds for the Museum is the Gift Shop located within the Museum at its entrance.
Items for kids and adults, and priced very reasonably so everyone can walk out the door with a treat!
Also, a few local Plantation artists have their items for sale such as hand-painted jewelry and accessories.
We've heard it many times "The Museum is a hidden gem," but we don't want it to be hidden any longer!
The Society actively participates in many events in Plantation.
The Society usually participates in the City's Independence Day parade and the Holiday Parade.
Also the Senior Expo, Halloween Safety Fest and Light Up City Hall, you'll find the PHS with a little booth spreading the news about the Museum.
The Betty Cobb Scholarship fund was created to honor one of the Society's beloved member, Betty Whatley Cobb who died in 2017.
A $1000 award is given to a graduating student who has volunteered for more than 40 hours at the Plantation Historical Museum.
The first scholarship was given in 2019.
A portion of the funds raised from the Broward County Plant Affair support the scholarship as does general donations from patrons and members.
Plantation Historical Society is a 501(C) (3) non-profit organization.
